We recognize there are circumstances that impact students ability to complete 15 hours of practicum. We hope Field Instructors and Task Supervisors can be creative in providing on-site learning opportunities that meet social work competencies. For instances the site cannot provide additional field hours on-site, we do encourage students to complete off-site field hours with the permission of our Field Instructors and/or Task supervisors. Students who are interested in these opportunities must get permission from their Field Instructor and/or Task Supervisor to count towards field hours.

When discussing off-site field hour opportunities, please consider how these educational opportunities are reflective of the social work competencies (listed below). Off-site field hours should only be utilized if a student has communicated with their site about falling behind recommended hours.

I will periodically update this announcement with different volunteer and/or training opportunities that are reflective of social work competencies so please continue to refer back to this announcement on Canvas throughout the academic year.

Even though the opportunities listed below are reflective of social work, practicum sites must agree to count these opportunities towards student's field hours. Sites are not required to grant you permission to complete off-site field hours.
